The impact of the unique 'Whistle Blow, Increase Attendance' campaign started with the aim of increasing the attendance of children in the government schools of Simdega district is visible. With this campaign, not only is the attendance of children in schools increasing, but leadership abilities of children are also being developed. While going to school at 8 in the morning, under the leadership of a monitor in every village, the school children go to school wearing school uniform and blowing whistles, so that the parents come to know that the school is open and they have to send their children to school also.
Whistle works as an alarm in rural areas, due to which parents as well as children start preparing for school. Students whistle and pass in front of the houses where children live and study in school. These children go to school taking their classmates with them, which has seen positive results in terms of school attendance. After the start of this campaign, children are not able to make excuses to their parents like school closure.
With this unique campaign, not only is the attendance of children in schools increasing, but leadership abilities are also developing within them. Under this campaign, every child in every village is given a whistle and he is given the responsibility of bringing 20 to 25 children to school. The child who gets this responsibility also develops tremendous management and leadership skills. The parents of the village come to know that if they need any information related to the school, they can get the information from the concerned student. Not only this, the children who have the responsibility of blowing the whistle also play the role of representatives of the students in the villages. Children of each school are divided into four houses, the captain of each house is given a whistle. Besides, the monitor of every class is also given a whistle.
Seeing the success of this unique campaign in Simdega, now the State Education Project Council is preparing to implement this campaign in rural areas of other districts of the state also. The attendance of children in government schools of Simdega is the highest in the state. Maximum 76% children are coming to school in Simdega. Schools in rural areas of the district have an important contribution to this. State officer of the campaign, Badal Raj says that this is a low-cost model, which is giving effective and positive results. The campaign is so successful in rural areas that preparations are being made to implement the 'Whistle Whistle, Call School' campaign in every district. In this state-based campaign, efforts will be made not only to increase the attendance of children in schools, but also to bring out-of-school and drop-out children to schools. Education Secretary K Ravi Kumar is himself monitoring this program.
