A head-on collision between a bus and a truck killed at least four persons and left around 40 others injured on the Cuttack-Chandbali road near Katarapada under Nischintakoili block of Cuttack district on Tuesday.
As per reports, the bus carrying the passengers was heading towards Cuttack from Chandbali, during which it dashed against the truck at around 7.30 am.
While four of the passengers, including a 22-year-old girl, died under the impact of the collision, others were injured in the accident.
On being informed, Fire Service personnel rushed to the spot and launched an operation to rescue the passengers trapped in the damaged bus. The injured were admitted to the Nischintakoili Hospital for treatment.
It was suspected that poor visibility owing to foggy conditions led to the mishap.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik, while expressing grief over the death of passenger, announced an ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakh each to their families.
