As many as 6,000 children have benefited from the Bal Sewa Yojana (child service scheme) launched by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for children who lost either of their parents or both during the COVID-19 period (from March 2020).

Besides, 2,000 other new children have also been selected by the Women and Child Development department, and they will be given the benefits of Bal Sewa Yojana soon.

The fresh applications have started coming in the department for the child service scheme.

Prior to this scheme, hundreds of children of UP were getting direct benefit from the sponsorship scheme aimed to give dignity, self-reliance and security to the children of people living below poverty line in UP. Under this scheme, there is a provision of giving Rs 2,000 per month to single, disabled parents and orphan, destitute children of poor sections.

At the district level, the district probation officer, DPO, DCPU and Bal Kalyan Samiti are accepting the applications coming from gram panchayat, block levels and distributing the amount to the children within six months. Under this scheme, 1,026 children have been benefited in different districts of the state.

To connect the children of the needy families of the state with the mainstream of education, the state government had also launched Bal Shramik Vidya Yojana. Through this scheme, on the one hand, the parents are being counseled to encourage their children in the field of education, while on the other, by getting all these children enrolled in primary schools, the children of underprivileged class are getting educated.
