The road condition in silk city has worsened due to frequent digging of roads for laying pipe-lines and non-maintenance of the roads, causing serious inconveniences to the road users.
Barring a few, most of the roads of the city are currently in bad shape and riddled with potholes, thereby making the day-to-day communication difficult.
New barracks street road- ranging from Jyoti Resident (City’s old bus stand) to Gandhinagar square, is in utter disarray with a lot of potholes, besides ups and downs, thereby posing a threat to commuters and vehicular traffic.
Being aggrieved by the inaction of the BeMC and the Government, the residents of the new barracks street led by senior lawyer Manoj Pattnaik resorted to one-hour peaceful dharana in front of the house of former Assembly Speaker late Surjya Narayan Patra on Monday morning demanding immediate renovation and repairing of the road in public interest.
Speaking to mediapersons, Pattnaik said that it is quite unfortunate that former Speaker late Patra and former Deputy Speaker Rama Chandra Panda, including several senior citizens and scribes, are residing in the street but the authorities are not giving proper attention to the condition of the road.
Prominent among those who sat in dharana include senior citizen and noted social worker Kishsore Chandra Panda, scribe Prasant Kumar Das, Pradip Kumar Das, Rabi Sankar Patra, Advocate Nadia Chand, Chandragupta Pattnaik, Santosh Roula, Someswar Rao among others.
If within a week, the road is not properly renovated, the agitation will be intensified further in the coming days, the residents cautioned.
