On receiving information about collection of huge cash by Padmanav Samantray, Block Development Officer (BDO), Bijepur, Bargarh district, as illegal gratification from different sources, the Vigilance police intercepted his vehicle on Sunday and seized unaccounted cash over Rs 3.51 lakh from his possession. The anti-graft agency’s officials of Sambalpur Division intercepted Samantaray’s rented Hyundai Venue car near the Mahanadi bridge at Binika in Subarnapur district while he was on his way to Bhubaneswar in the morning.
During the search, the Vigilance officials recovered Rs 3,51,300 from his possession. However, when Samantaray could not give any satisfactory reply and failed to account for the money, it was seized.
Following the interception, Vigilance teams conducted simultaneous raids at his office room, his Government residential quarters in Bijepur in Bargarh district and his residential building in Bhubaneswar and Puri. Later, the accused BDO was arrested and forwarded to court.
