A girl committed suicide on January 1 in theSadar police station area here after she was blackmailed by her boyfriend over some obscene pictures.
The deceased was identified as PriyadarshiniBehera (22), a resident of Goudabisi village.
Priyadarshini had a developed love relationship with one Rudra Das ofKhardasahi village under the Chandol police outpost.The youth slyly captured intimate photos and videos of the girl and later blackmailed her by threatening to make them viral on social media.
Fearing social embarrassment, the girl ended her life by hanging herself, said Chandol police outpost in-charge SoumyaRanjanPanigrahi.
The family members of the girl lodged an FIR at the Sadar police station accusing Rudra for the death of the girl.
Police have registered a case under Section 305 of the IPC and conducting investigation. After the incident, Rudra is absconding.
