K’HANDI VARSITY RENAMED AS MAA MANIKESHWARI UNIVERSITY

Bhawanipatna: The Kalahandi University here has been renamed as Maa Manikeshwari University, the Chief Minister’s Office said in a release on Friday. The renaming proposal given by the Higher Education Department was approved by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Notably, the Kalahandi University comprising 50 colleges was formed on September 1, 2020. During his Kalahandi visit last month, the CM had made an announcement regarding the renaming of the university.

 

CM ANNOUNCES RS 4L AID TO EACH BOAT CAPSIZE VICTIM’S KIN

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each for the families of five persons who died after a boat capsized in the Patali river in Koraput district on Thursday. Patnaik also expressed grief over the incident and expressed his sympathies to the bereaved families. Three women and two minor girls died after the country boat capsized in the river All the five deceased persons were the residents of Tansing village under Nandapur block in Koraput.

 

EX-RAVENSHAW PRINCIPAL PANDA NO MORE

Paralakhemundi: Prof Amulya Kumar Panda, former Principal of the Ravenshaw College, passed away at his Bhubaneswar residence. He was ailing for some time. Earlier, he had worked as Zoology Lecturer in the SKCG Autonomous College in Paralakhemundi. Principal and all teaching and non-teaching staffs of the SKCG College paid their tributes to Panda and recalled his contribution for the college. Dr Sankar Prasad Bakshi, Sunil Kumar Mishra, D Sashibhusan Padhi, Amar Padhi,Pradip Nayak,Rajendra Behera,  Garudadhwaja Choudhry, Bhagabat Padhi andTarini Prasad among others expressed grief over the demise of Panda.

 

GROUP CLASH OVER LAND DISPUTE LEAVES 6 CRITICAL IN BHADRAK

Bhadrak: A group clash over land dispute involving two families has left six persons, including three women, critically injured at Baralapokhari under the Bhadrak Town police limits. The injured have been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital. Police have started an investigation into the incident. As per reports, the land dispute has been prevailing between Dalei and Senapati families in the village for the last four years. The matter took a violent turn on Thursday night as the two groups attacked each other with sharp weapons.

 

BHAWANIPATNA-VISAKHAPATNAM TRAIN SERVICE BEGINS

Bhubaneswar: Train services between Bhawanipatna and Visakhapatnam commenced on Thursday with extension of the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada Daily Passenger Special train to Bhawanipatna. The train service will be available daily.

 

SANJEEVANI HOLDS CITY TALENT AWARD

Sunabeda : The 8th annual City Talent Award was held by Sanjeevani in Semiliguda of Koraput district. On the occasion, 12 talented persons of the district were selected and felicitated. Cyclists, social workers, vocalists, dancers, artists who have brought fame for the district were honoured by the chif guest. Sunabeda Municipality Chairman Rajendra Ku Patra, Sajeevani director Sanjeev Mohanty and social worker Rajesh Yadav were present.
