To mark the beginning of New Year 2024 SAIL/Bokaro Steel Plant is going to start with a high note beaming with the laurels of prestigious ICC Environmental Excellence Award in highest Platinum Category. ICC has announced the 17th edition of ‘ICC Environment Excellence Award 2023’ to recognize the excellence of organizations in the sphere of environment for the year 2022 - 2023. Notably The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Environment Excellence Award is a prestigious recognition given to organizations for their environmental management. The award acknowledges an organization's commitment to the social well-being of the planet and its people. It is noteworthy to mention here that under the leadership of Director-Incharge Atanu Bhowmick and ED(Works) BK Tiwari, BSL has taken the drive to incorporate operational excellence and sustainability across various verticals using Circular economy, Energy Efficiency and Environment Conservation as enablers .
The ECS (Environment Conservation & Sustainability) Department had filed an application on behalf of BSL in the “Large Business Organizations (LBO)” category. Presentation in front of an eminent Panels of Jury from Industry, Academia and Sustainability Experts was done by, Nitesh Ranjan AGM (Environment) on 13thDec’23 and queries raised by jury members were handled by GM (Environment), NP Srivastava. The Jury was quite impressed with the dynamic initiatives of Bokaro Steel Plant for Environment Protection and its efforts to adopt sustainable ways of steel making. Based on the application filed, assessment of various Sustainability parameters and presentation given the Jury Members have recommended SAIL, Bokaro Steel Plant as winner of 17th ICC Environmental Excellence Award for outstanding achievements in Environment & Sustainability in highest Platinum Category.
The Awards ceremony would be held on 11th January 2024 at Hotel Oberoi Grand Kolkata.The Environment Excellence Award is one of the most coveted and prestigious recognitions that the organizations strive to win for environment management.The award process includes application submission, on-site assessments, presentations, and final jury scoring.
It is pertinent to mention here that, BSL has achieved 12.07% reduction in particulate matter emission, 77.3 % reduction in specific effluent discharge during the last three financial years. 100% Solid Waste Utilization achieved during FY Year 2022-23 and more than 47 lakh saplings have been planted by BSL collective since inception.
