Carry out repair work at war footing: Atishi to PWD

Ahead of the Republic Day celebrations,  Delhi PWD Minister Atishi instructed the Principal Secretary (PWD) to carry out repair and maintenance work on a war footing.  Minister Atishi has sought weekly progress reports on her table to monitor the progress of maintenance works, including painting of all road markings and repair of all minor breakages of footpaths. In a written communication, The PWD minister emphasized sprucing up the national capital on this day of national pride, so that Delhiites could feel proud of their city.

The PWD Minister, “The PWD is in charge of the maintenance of the fundamental infrastructure of major roads in Delhi. Therefore, it is crucial for PWD to initiate the work of repair and maintenance of these roads at a war footing level ahead of January 26.” Atishi instructed the officials to ensure the repair and maintenance of the footpath and central verge. Painting of road markings should be done again along with footpaths, central verges, kerbstone and grills. Officials have also been asked to focus on enhancing the aesthetics with horticulture on central verges and sidewalks to increase the beauty of the roads across the city.

Earlier, expressing anguish over what she termed as its “deplorable” condition on , Atishi who is also holding the portfolio of Law and Justice department, has directed officials concerned to prepare a detailed maintenance contract draft for the Rohini Court Complex by December 30. In response to the concerns raised by judges and lawyers about the poor management of facilities at the Rohini Court Complex, Atishi on Friday visited the site to assess the situation and expressed dissatisfaction with the deteriorating state of the court building. Following her visit, she directed the Principal Secretary of PWD to produce a comprehensive annual maintenance contract by December 30, in consultation with the Principal Secretary (Law).

Last week, Atishi had pulled up her own department for laxity and apathy towards the dismal condition of roads. Atishi said all roads wider than 60 feet are maintained by the PWD and these roads are in abysmal conditions in most parts of the city. In a communication addressed to the PWD Principal Secretary, the minister has directed  with an ultimatum to repair all the potholes in the national capital by the end of this year; soliciting daily reports on the progress to be tabled.
