In a significant move highlighting the crucial role of communication, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has underscored the necessity for the expansion of the Lucknow Metro to meet the growing demands of the state capital.
During a pivotal meeting on Tuesday, the chief minister reviewed the progress of the Lucknow, Agra, and Kanpur Metro projects. Acknowledging the eagerness of the private sector to collaborate in the expansion of metro services. He directed officials to actively seek cooperation from private entities for the same.
The proposed expansion includes a new route from Charbagh to Basant Kunj via Chowk, with the existing route set to extend to IIM and PGI. Yogi stressed the importance of completing both under-construction routes in Kanpur and Agra within the stipulated time frame.
He emphasised the need for strict adherence to safety standards during the execution of underground metro projects, highlighting the paramount importance of passenger safety.
Addressing the officials, the chief minister issued instructions to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the new metro route from Charbagh to Vasant Kunj via Chowk in Lucknow. He further urged them to conduct suitability tests for both underground and elevated metro services, emphasising the significance of promptly submitting the proposal.
The chief minister expressed that the proposed expansion would connect a large population with modern urban transport facilities, enhancing the overall accessibility of the city.
Additionally, the chief minister advocated for the extension of the existing Lucknow Metro route to Indian Institute of Management on one side and SGPGI on the other. He highlighted the willingness of private sector companies to cooperate in this expansion and suggested considering Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode for this development.
Regarding the ongoing metro projects in Kanpur and Agra, the chief minister assured that there would be no shortage of funds for any public-interest project. He emphasised timely release of funds and urged officials to maintain effective communication and coordination to ensure the completion of projects within the stipulated time frame.
Furthermore, Yogi also advocated for the promotion of electric buses and e-rickshaws in Gautam Buddha Nagar and 17 municipal corporations to bolster sustainable transportation options.
