Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Tuesday announced that in line with an election promise, 67.92 lakh poor families in Chhattisgarh will get free rice grain for the coming five years.
Under the scheme, rice will be provided from January 2024 to December 2018, he said.
District Collectors have been told to implement the scheme under which fair price shops in the state will distribute free rice to 67,92,153 Anyodaya, Priority, disabled and single destitute ration card holders, an official communiqué said.
This order has been issued under the Chhattisgarh Food and Nutrition Protection Act.
According to the Food Department, there are 14,92,438 Anyodaya card holders, 52,46,656 priority class, 15,351 disabled and 37,708 single destitute card holders in the state.
