The Communist Party of India (Marxists), on Saturday, condemned the slapping of sedition charges on three Kashmiri students of RBS College in Agra for celebrating Pakistan’s victory over India in a recent T20 World Cup match.
In a statement issued in Lucknow on Saturday, CPI (M) state secretary Heera Lal Yadav said that the Bharatiya Janata Party government was misusing the law which was enacted by the British rulers to fulfill its communal agenda.
He said that the BJP government’s action was a part of an agenda of hatred against a particular sect.
“Not only this, the attack on the accused Kashmiri students by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh controlled organisations and advocates linked with these outfits is also a pointer that law and order has taken a backseat in the BJP regime. The police remained mute spectators when the accused students were being beaten. I on behalf of the CPI (M) hereby demand that the students be released and the cases registered against them be withdrawn,” the CPI (M) leader said.
