The students of DAV PG College have written a letter addressed to the senior superintendent of police of Dehradun, Ajai Singh, urging that stringent measures should be taken in response to an incident wherein a young girl lost her life due to the collapse of a college wall during October this year. The former president of DAV college students union Paras Goyal informed that the college wall was in a dilapidated condition for many months before the incident happened and students had earlier lodged multiple complaints with the college administration seeking its repair. Unfortunately, their concerns were disregarded, culminating in the tragic incident resulting in the loss of a young girl's life, he added.
He further said that in the pursuit of justice for the girl, the students have consistently demanded compensation and a government job for her grieving family. However, the authorities have yet to take any action in this case. Additionally, a committee was created in the college to investigate the matter but no report indicating measures for the safety of students has come to light so far, he said.
Goyal further stated that there have been delays in taking action in the said case due to unavoidable circumstances, which include the recent appointment of a new principal and the student union election. In view of such delay by the police and college management, the students of the DAV PG college, along with the brother of the deceased have recently submitted a letter to the Dehradun SSP. They have sought strict action and the fulfillment of their demands. Goyal said that he believes that by exerting pressure on the police, the college management will be compelled to provide compensation to the deceased's family. He added that if no action is taken by the police in this matter, the students will hold a protest at the college during the first week of January.
