Days after marriage, motivational speaker faces domestic violence charges

Sunday, 24 December 2023 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi/noida

This is not the first time entrepreneur and motivational speaker Vivek Bindra is in the news for the wrong reasons. Already involved in an online feud with another motivational speaker, Bindra  is accused of domestic violence against his wife and left her partially deaf, just a few days after his marriage. A case has been registered against him by his brother-in-law in Noida’s Sector 126.

According to the police, the complaint was filed by Vaibhav Kwatra, the brother of Bindra’s wife, Yanika, who claimed that the incident took place in the Supernova West Residency in Noida’s Sector 94, where the couple resides. The police said they are investigating the allegations and would take action upon probe.

In the early hours of December 7, a heated altercation erupted between Bindra and his mother, Prabha. What began as a family dispute took a distressing turn when Yanika stepped in to mediate, only to get physically assaulted by Bindra, police said. The assault has allegedly left deep wounds on Yanika’s body, as captured in a video that has since gone viral on social media. A video of Yanika showing her injuries from a hospital bed has also gone viral one social media. In the purported video, she is seen showing her injuries to cameras and claiming the influencer slapped him some 30-40 times. She also claimed she is unable to hear from her left ear.

Another video, shot in the early hours outside the society gate, shows Bindra trying to persuade his wife to come inside.

Bindra could not be contacted immediately for his response. The FIR was lodged at the Sector 126 police station on December 14 after a complaint by Vaibhav Kwatra, brother of Bindra’s wife Yanika. Bindra and Yanika got married on December 6 and were living in a posh society in Sector 94 here, he said.

“On the morning of December 7, my brother-in-law Vivek Bindra was arguing with his mother Prabha ji. When my sister Yanika intervened in this matter, my brother-in-law locked the room with my sister, abused her and beat her a lot, due to which she has wounds all over her body, she is unable to hear, and her hair were also torn out,” Kwatra claimed.

“Due to the head wound, she was feeling quite dizzy. She was being treated at Kailash Deepak Hospital in Delhi,” he claimed.

Kwatra also alleged that during the fight Bindra broke his sister’s mobile phone. He urged the police to take strict action in the case. A senior police officer said on the basis of the complaint, an FIR has been lodged in the case under Indian Penal Code sections 323 (causing hurt), 504 (insult to provoke breach of peace), 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), and 427 (mischief).
