At least 10 people were killed and several others were injured in a road accident when a passenger bus collided with a truck on the Moradabad-Agra highway owing to low visibility due to dense fog early Saturday morning.
The accident occurred almost 18 kilometres away from Moradabad city at Hussainpur Puliya in Moradabad's Kundarki area.
Top police and administration officials, including the district magistrate, district police chief and chief medical officer reached the spot and supervised the relief and rescue operations.
All the injured were shifted to hospital.
"Forensic team is here, rescue almost complete. Three vehicles collided with each other. Eyewitnesses said it was a case of overtaking," the SSP of Moradabad disclosed to the media persons.
Expressing grief, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered a probe into the incident and directed officials to provide assistance and health services to the victims. The chief minister also announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured persons.
In a similar incident earlier this week, five people were killed after an ambulance hit a stationary truck in Gopiganj area of Bhadohi due reduced visibility in dense fog on Tuesday. Four members of a family and the ambulance driver were killed in the accident, police said.
Meanwhile, five more persons were also killed in two mishaps reported on Saturday.
In Kannauj, dense fog led to head-on collision between a speeding truck and a car in which three persons lost their lives while one was critically injured. The accident took place on Agra- Lucknow Expressway early Saturday morning.
Reports said that all the four occupants of the car were returning from New Delhi after attending a function. Those killed included Ajit Singh (40), hailing from Arjunganj locality of Lucknow, Manish Verma (40), a resident of Aliganj in Lucknow, Pankaj Singh (30), a resident of Shivnagar Colony in Pratapgarh.
The injured was identified as Kanchan Singh, a resident of Surajdeep Complex in Lucknow. She was admitted to Saifai PGI in Etawah.
In Azamgarh, two friends were killed in a mishap. The accident took place in Itkohiya hamlet of Phoolpur on Friday night. Both the friends, identified as Amir Humza (28), a resident of Surahikhurd Saraimeer locality in Muslim Colony in Azamgarh, and Mohamed Atif Ansari, hailing from Jagdishpur also in Azamgarh, were returning when their car rammed into a roadside tree due to dense fog.
Both the friends died on the spot.
