Incumbent Chief Secretary DS Mishra, a 1984 batch IAS officer and the administrative head of the state, has been given one year’s extension in service till December 31 2023.
This is the second extension in service granted to DS Mishra. He was due to retire in December 2021, but was given one year’s extension.
The order for extension in service is likely to be issued soon.
Before joining as chief secretary of UP, DS Mishra was housing and urban affairs secretary since June 2017, and was additional secretary in the same ministry before that. He has been overseeing the implementation and execution of one of Narendra Modi government’s most ambitious projects till date — the redevelopment of New Delhi’s Central Vista, which includes a new parliament building.
It was also during Mishra’s term as housing secretary that some of the Modi government’s flagship programmes for the urban sector were implemented, including the Smart Cities Mission, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and the launch of metro rail systems in several cities, including Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Nagpur and Kanpur.
