The Primary Education department has started the process of recruitment of 1,200 teachers. These teachers will be appointed on the vacant posts in the primary schools of the State. The Primary Education director RK Uniyal said that soon the recruitment requisition will be sent to the districts. He said that the department is planning to hold the counselling of the candidates in a single day in all the 13 districts. It is pertinent to mention here that the process of recruitment of primary teachers is stuck for the past two years in the State. The issue of the Diploma in Elementary Education (DElEd) from National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) had resulted in delay in the recruitment process. In December 2022 the Uttarakhand High Court had directed that the candidates with DElEd from NIOS should be held eligible for recruitment as primary teachers in the primary schools and should be included in the recruitment process. This order was challenged in the Supreme Court which on November 28 directed that the NIOS DElEd are not eligible for recruitment following which the department has initiated the process of recruitment.
