Eight people died in separate mishaps during the last 24 hours in the state.
Three people were killed and seven others were injured when the e-rickshaw they were travelling in was hit by a truck on Ayodhya-Prayagraj national highway in Amethi district, police said on Thursday.
The accident happened on Wednesday night when a troupe of musicians was returning to Sultanpur after performing a musical programme in Pratapgarh, Deputy Superintendent of Police Lallan Singh said.
A government spokesman in Lucknow said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the deaths in the accident and directed officials to ensure proper treatment to the injured.
The truck driver fled the spot after the accident, the DSP said, adding efforts were on to nab him. Two of the deceased belonged to Sultanpur and one to Ambedkar Nagar, the police said.
In another mishap reported from Mathura, a tractor-trolley full of villagers was returning from the dargah of Kamal Khan in Agra when it overturned in a ditch and two of its occupants were killed while about a dozen others were seriously injured.
The accident happened near Dangoli village of Mathura district on Thursday afternoon. The injured were admitted to various hospitals.
Idu, a resident of Badanpur village in Thana Mant area of Mathura district, had taken 30 villagers on his tractor-trolley to Agra on Wednesday evening for offering 'chadar' at Kamal Khan's dargah. On Thursday afternoon, they were returning to their village when the mishap took place.
Shabbir Khan's daughter Sonia (22) and Alamuddin's son Sanjit Khan (25) died on the spot. Santo, Idu, Shan Mohammad were admitted to the district hospital.
In another similar mishap, eight people from village Sarayalti under Mainpuri Kurawali police station, Nagala Dhari village of Etah, and Nagla Kandi under Mirhachi police station were going to worship Mother Kali at Karnavas Belon Devi temple in Kadarabad village of Junawai area. On Thursday morning, when the tempo full of devotees reached Asadpur police station area, the driver lost control over the wheels and the tempo overturned on the road. Hearing screams, local people rushed and rescued the victims and admitted them to the community health centre. The doctor pronounced Natho Devi (55-years), a resident of Nagla Kanhi village under Mirhachi police station of Etah district dead. Surajmukhi (65), Kiran Baby (36), Bablu (40), Shivam (11), Ranveer Singh (45), Rajni (40), all residents of village Nagla Dhari village and Avagarh village of Etah district were referred to Aligarh after their conditions turned critical.
On getting information about the incident, the police also reached the spot.
Meanwhile in Kharagpur locality of Sitapur, a woman and her son were electrocuted to death after they came in contact with a fan through which electric current was passing.
According to reports, Nandram, a resident of Kharagpur, works as a labourer in Lucknow. On Wednesday evening, Nandram had come to Lucknow with his two daughters. There was a dance-song programme late on Wednesday night. Everyone watched the programme and came home around 7 in the morning on Thursday. Nandram’s wife Reena started making tea when her 10-year-old son Shivam went to switch off the fan and got electrocuted. Seeing the son screaming for help, she also rushed and tried to pull him and in the process she was also electrocuted.
Later her other sons rushed and immediately disconnected the power supply but by then the woman and her son had already turned unconscious. They were taken to hospital where the doctors pronounced them dead upon arrival.
On getting information, Sun-Divisional Magistrate Misrikh Anil Kumar, Kalli police outpost incharge Harshit Kumar Singh, along with other officials reached the spot for inspection. They sent the bodies for post-mortem. Further investigations are on.
