A group of nine elephants have demolished 12 houses in the last nine days in villages in the Udaipur forest areas in Chhattisgarh’s Surguja district.
They also trampled cattle to death on Monday night.
The villagers are upset due to the destruction of their homes amid the biting cold.
Forest Department officials said the elephants has been roaming in the forests of Surguja district.
The department is monitoring the movement of the elephants and making announcements in villages, besides moving villagers to safe places if necessary.
Shrinking forests are leading to increasing elephant and human conflicts. The operation of mines in the elephant habitat is also a major reason.
