Lakhs of devotees and saints took a holy dip in Sangam, the confluence of the rivers Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Sarasvati, in Prayagraj on Saturday on the occasion of Magh Purnima.
As a mark of respect, the Yogi Adityanath government showered flower petals from a helicopter, increasing the enthusiasm among the devotees.
According to an official communiqué released on Saturday, special cleanliness arrangements had been made and it was also ensured that all the Covid protocols were followed in the Mela premises.
The devotees and saints appreciated the initiative of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in recognition of his Sanatan tradition.
The chief minister extended his greetings to the people of the state and devotees, saints and the Kalpvasis who have come to Magh Mela to take a holy dip on the occasion of Magh Purnima.
It may be mentioned that earlier on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya and Kumbh in 2019, the devotees and saints were given a similar welcome. Last year also, flower petals were showered from a helicopter on the kanwariyas in the western UP and Prayagraj during the Kanwad Yatra.
The government has ensured all arrangements, including security and convenience for the devotees who visit and stay on the ghats of Sangam for the month-long Kalpvas during the Magh Mela. As per the intentions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, special attention has been given to cleanliness and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also given specific instructions to the local administration regarding the safety, cleanliness and convenience of the devotees and the saints, the release added.
