Even as the opposition parties continue their agitation for dismissal of Dibya Shankar Mishra from the Naveen Patnaik Ministry for his alleged involvement in the Mamita Meher murder case, the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Saturday targeting the Centre over the increasing fuel prices and announced that it would resort to a State-wide protest over the issue from November 1.

Senior BJD MLAs Pratap Keshari Deb, Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak and Pramilla Mallick told a Oress conference here that the Union Government has completely failed to control the prices of petrol, diesel and other essential commodities.

To protest this, party members and leaders would stage a dharna in front of the Raj Bhavan here on Sunday and submit a memorandum on the issue to the Governor addressing to the President.

From November 1, the party would hold protests in all 147 Assembly constituencies over the issue, they also informed.

As part of the protests, members of the party’s women, student and youth wings would stage demonstrations in front of all petrol pumps across the State, they said.

Deb said, “While the Covid-19 pandemic has already affected livelihoods of common people over the last two years, the rising prices of fuel and other essential commodities have added to their woes. Prices of petrol and diesel have increased record high during the past two years. The BJD will no more tolerate this and hit streets for the interest of public.”

Notably, private bus operators have decided to stop plying their vehicles across the State from Nov 16.
