The State department of culture intends to enhance the existing gallery at Himalayan Culture Centre (HCC) in order to foster a deeper connection between individuals and the State's cultural heritage. Speaking on this matter, the director of the department Beena Bhatt said that continuous efforts are being made to promote and conserve the State’s rich, multifaceted culture. “Further, the department is mulling upgradation of the current gallery at HCC to attract a larger audience to the facility,” she said.
She further informed that in order to ensure proper functioning of HCC, a committee consisting of seven members has been constituted under the supervision of the chief secretary. “The committee has the authority to make all decisions related to the efficient operation of HCC in consultation with the culture department,” she said, adding that the committee has been registered to ensure its smooth functioning.
Bhatt further stated that the department has recruited 28 employees to provide assistance at specific locations in HCC. “When the galleries will be upgraded and new replicas of existing artifacts will be added, we will recruit more temporary assistants. Also, the National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited has been appointed under an annual maintenance contract to oversee the regular maintenance of HCC,” Bhatt said.
Notably, the recently opened HCC is the first cultural centre in the State meant to present the richness of the cultural heritage of Uttarakhand and to pass it on to future generations.
