As Uttar Pradesh has become an oxygen surplus state and there is a back-up of oxygen for medical use for five days, the state government has decided to allow industries to use oxygen so that industrial activities can continue undisrupted.
“In view of the availability of oxygen, industrial units have been allowed to use oxygen for their use. Industries should be kept functioning normally,” Additional Chief Secretary Navneet Sehgal said here on Sunday.
Recently, many industries had demanded that they should be allowed to use oxygen for industries because their work was being affected.
It may be recalled that when there was an acute crisis of oxygen for medical use, the government had transferred the industrial oxygen to hospitals following which production in many industries was affected. “Oxygen plants are being established in the state in a campaign mode. So far, more than 415 oxygen plants have been approved in various districts out of which 61 plants have become functional,” Sehgal said. He said that real time monitoring of the installation work was being done.
“The district administrations have been asked to continuously monitor the installation work of these plants and to ensure that availability of raw material or civil work was completed in time. Uttar Pradesh will be self-sufficient on the scale of oxygen production,” he said. The government claims that 496 metric tons of oxygen was distributed during the last 24 hours, of which 285 MT was made available to the re-fillers. They now have a back-up of five days.
