Hanumanganj police have arrested a vehicle thief and recovered three stolen vehicles from the possession of the accused worth Rs 2 lakh.

Police said that the accused is being interrogated in connection with other crimes as those involved in disposing and helping the accused in the crimes are yet to be identified and nabbed.

According to Hanumanganj police station in-charge Awadhesh Bhadauria, in view of the increasing incidents of vehicle theft, teams were deployed in different areas of the area. On Wednesday, information was received from the informer that a youth was roaming  around the kindergarten with a bike which was without registration vehicle number.

After the information, the accused was tracked and detained. On enquiry, he revealed his name as Bhupendra Panthi (30) and is a resident of Narayan Colony, Aaron district, Guna.

The accused revealed that at present he is living in Bihari Colony, Bhanpur. During interrogation, the accused said that the bike he was having was stolen earlier. Along with this bike he had also stolen two Honda Activa scooters. The accused said that both the stolen vehicles are parked in his house in Bhanpur. The three vehicles recovered from the possession of the accused are worth around Rs 2 lakh.

Police have started to check the details of the recovered stolen vehicles and would also coordinate with other police stations as the accused belong to Guna he might have stolen from his district as well.

The accused used to target vehicles parked at deserted places.
