Drug safety alert issued on painkiller Meftal

The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) has issued a drug safety alert advising healthcare professionals and patients to monitor adverse reactions of painkiller Meftal, commonly used for menstrual cramps and rheumatoid arthritis.  The mefenamic acid painkiller is prescribed in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, dysmenorrhoea, mild to moderate pain, inflammation, fever and dental pain. The alert stated that a preliminary analysis of adverse drug reactions from the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI) database revealed drug reactions with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) syndrome.

If such reaction is encountered, the alert advised, people should report the matter to the national coordination centre of the PvPI under the commission by filing a form on the website - www.Ipc.Gov.In - or through android mobile app ADR PvPI and PvPI Helpline No. 1800-180-3024, it said.

AOMSI’s 47th annual conference held

The 47th Annual Conference of the Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India (AOMSI) was held here based on the theme “Teaming Experience with Evidence.”  The delegates explored current and innovative solutions in oral and maxillofacial surgery, discussed important topics like jaw surgery, oral cancer, fractures, craniofacial anomalies, orofacial pathology etc. Conference Secretary Dr. Manjunath Rai, Organizing Chairman Dr. Ashish Gupta , Organizing Secretary Dr. Atul Sharma, Joint Organizing Secretary Dr. Imran Khan and Scientific Chairman Dr. Rohit Chandra, provided a serious platform for discussion of groundbreaking ideas and progress in the field.  Chief guest was Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research, according to a statement here.

Surya Hospitals heartwarming walkathon for kids

On World Premature Day and International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3, Surya Hospitals, Santacruz, brought smiles to over 250 children aged 11 months to 14 years with a special walkathon. USFDA nod for Methylene Blue Injection

Zydus Lifesciences Limited  has announced that it has received the  final approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) to manufacture and market Methylene Blue Injection, 10mg/2ml and 50mg/5ml. Zydus’ Methylene Blue Injection, 10mg/2ml and 50mg/5ml. generic version of the Reference Listed Drug (RLD) ProvayBlue Injection. The majority of current market usage is still on the ampoule presentation whereas Zydus is offering a generic version of Methylene Blue injection in vial presentation. From a hospital perspective, vial presentation is an affordable option with significant benefit and advantage. Vial presentation has no risk of Glass particulate contamination like in ampoules and provides various benefits like ease of use, handlings and flexible option with reduced dose waste.
