The State Government has increased the monthly stipend of House Surgeons from the existing Rs 20,000 to Rs 28,000 with effect from January 1, 2021.
The enhancement is effective for a period of three years.
The decision was taken after House Surgeons of Government medical college hospitals threatened to intensify their agitation if their demand for stipend hike was not met.
“Considering the demand of House Surgeons’ Association and the views of Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET) to this effect, the Government has been pleased to enhance the monthly stipend of house surgeons of the Government Medical Colleges,” stated a letter from the Health and Family Welfare Department to the DMET Director.
The expenditure to this effect would be met from the Budget provision made under appropriate Head of Account for respective medical college hospitals, the letter added.
