Another CCTV footage of deceased Rama Devi Women’s University student Jharaphula Nayak, who hailed from Mayurbhanj district, and her lover Rakesh Swain having lunch together at a roadside dhaba in Bhubaneswar surfaced on Saturday.
The video captured from a CCTV installed at the eatery shows the two arriving there by a scooter with both wearing helmets at 12.20 pm on January 26. They left at 1.06 pm.
The Commissionerate police carried out an investigation at the guesthouse by questioning its owner and employees.
Notably, on Friday, a video captured from the CCTV installed near a guesthouse at Dharma Vihar here, where Jharaphula and Rakesh had stayed, had come to the fore. The video showed Rakesh driving a scooter with Jharaphula riding pillion in morning on January 27.
Meanwhile, accused Rakesh, who was arrested on January 28, was produced before the Jajpur District Court on Friday.
The district’s Kuakhia police have sought a five-day remand of Rakesh for interrogation. The court would hear the matter next on February 1. Rakesh was sent to judicial custody.
Meanwhile, following Jharaphula’s death, students of the Rama Devi Women’s University here have been in a state of shock since past four days.
Mourning the death, students and teachers of the State’s premier women’s university bid a tearful adieu to the soul at the campus on Friday. They demanded a detailed investigation into the death mystery and capital punishment to the guilty.
Vice Chancellor Prof Aparajita Choudhury, Registrar Shyamali Mohapatra, PG Council Chairman Sasmita Mohanty, former Students’ Union president Ipsita Sahoo were, among others, who paid tribute to Jharaphula.
