The Baristha Nagarika Manch observed the 117th birthday of renowned astrologer Jyotish Bisharada late Baikoli Mohapatra in the premises of Bijipur Jagannath Temple here on Thursday. Manch president and noted social worker Trinath Maharana presided over the meeting.
Before commencement of the meeting, the dignitaries lit the candle and garlanded the photo of late Baikolibabu and paid their floral tribute with chanting of Vedas by Pandit Ashok Kumar Das and Aruna Kumar Samal.
Earlier, joint secretary of the Manch Pankaj Kumar Naik vividly presented the life history of late Baikoli Mahapatra, while the secretary, Odia Language Movement, Ashok Dalai explained the contributions of Baikolibabu to society and how he got recognition at the national level as an excellent teacher, a productive social worker and for his accurate and flawless astrological predictions. Among others, Mohan Charan Swain, Subash Chandra Mishra, Kabiraj Sahu, Kishore Chandra Brahma, Rabinarayan Sabat and Bijay Gouda were present.
President of the Manch Maharana in his address demanded that the upcoming planetarium at Brahmapur be named after Baikoli and the photograph of all the eminent astrologers of the region including Baikoli and Trinath Mishra be displayed in the premises of the planetarium in recognition of their contributions. The Manch felicitated some working journalists. Suryanarayan Das offered the vote of thanks.
