Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday inaugurated the Astronomy Lab School set up in the premises of Government Model Sanskriti Senior Secondary School and Government Girls Senior Secondary School in Bhiwani.
After inaugurating the lab, the Chief Minister also interacted with the students and took detailed information about the knowledge they would get from this lab.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi also emphasized inculcating scientific temper in children. Generally, children studying in government schools are confined to the general curriculum. With the setting up of these labs, children belonging to the poorest of the poor families will be able to learn about the mystery of the Universe,” said Khattar.
Deputy Commissioner RS Dhillon informed the Chief Minister that Kalpana Chawla Astronomy Lab will also be set up in Government Model Sanskriti School and Astronomy Lab in the name of Dr Vikram Sarabhai in Government Girls Senior Secondary School.
“In this Astronomy Lab, children will be able to study the atmosphere of earth, moon, and stars through a telescope. There is a plan to provide the facility of four telescopes in one lab. This will not only increase the interest in the children but will also increase their scientific knowledge,” he said.
“The students will find answers to every question about the Universe in the Astronomy Lab,” said Dhillon adding that there will be 25 working models in the lab. “These labs have been set up with three main objectives including arousing curiosity among the students through practical knowledge of space, developing scientific temper in all children from a young age, and studying other planets of the solar system by closely looking at them through telescopes and capturing their pictures in the camera,” he added.
