Ahead of the general elections 2024, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday appointed its Jagdalpur MLA Kiran Singh Deo as president of its Chhattisgarh unit.
The appointment was made by BJP President J.P. Nadda, party General Secretary Arun Kumar said.
“This appointment will come into effect immediately,” he added.
Deo will succeed Arun Sao, who has become a Deputy Chief Minister after the BJP took power in the state.
With Deo's appointment, the BJP had executed social engineering ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Deo, 61, is from landlord family of Bastar and an advocate by profession. He entered politics by joining the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM). He belongs to the general category.
He was earlier the Mayor of Jagdalpur town in Bastar as well as a BJP General Secretary.
Deo is a first time MLA. He defeated Congress’ Jatin Jaiswal by 29,834 votes.
