The courts across Baleswar district, including the District Judge Court, have stopped functioning as advocates have embarked on a cease-work agitation protesting non-fulfilment of their demands. Initially, the Soro courts’ lawyers had begun to cease work from Tuesday. Now, the courts in the district headquarters and other places have launched their s tir from Thursday. The demands include suspension of police personnel involved in thrashing an advocate of Soro and departmental and legal proceedings against them. “We will continue our agitation till our demands are fulfilled.
The Supreme Court Bar association has also taken cognisance of our issue,” said Balasore Bar Association president Manoj Nayak. He said a senior lawyer, Dhiren Das (62) of Soro was beaten black and blue by police in the Soro police station for no fault of his. The advocates want dignity and protection from such police excesses, he added.
