Friday, 29 December 2023 | PNS | ROURKELA

A marauding tusker trampled a man to death and critically injured a woman on Wednesday night under the Panposh Forest Range under Rourkela Forest Division in Sundargarh district.

The deceased was identified as Birshu Binjhia (41) of Ramjodi village under Panposh Forest Range while the injured woman was identified as Jamuna Lohar (40), a resident of Nuatoli Mundajore, Lathikata

After the death of Binjhia, irate villagers staged a demonstration and did not allow the forest officials to send the body for postmortem. After the Range Officer gave a written assurance to the locals to drive away the tusker, the latter allowed the officials take the body.

The critically injured woman was admitted to the Rourkela Government Hospital.
