Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Monday welcomed repealing of the three agriculture laws by the Central government and termed it as a victory of democracy.

“After a year of agitation by the farmers, the repealing of the three farm laws in both Houses of Parliament would give some relief to the farmers besides the move is a victory of democracy. My party would like the government to discuss with the farmers and make a law also on Minimum Support Price (MSP), which the farmers have been demanding and the BSP fully supportst,” tweeted Mayawati on Monday.

Meanwhile, the BSP also took a dig at the Samajwadi Party and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party stating that they were dreaming of coming to power based on the strength of expelled leaders from the Mayawati-led party.

Newly-appointed BSP Legislature Party leader Uma Shankar Singh said that these leaders were expelled from the BSP for their poor image. Singh's remarks came after several BSP leaders, including its former legislature party leader Lalji Verma joined other parties in the past.

Singh also claimed that the leaders were also expelled due to complaints against them for “illegally occupying land or about their involvement in other illegal activities”. He asserted that Mayawati “never tolerates illegal activities” by anyone in the party and has hence rejected them.

"The BSP MLAs joining SP and BJP are the ones who have been expelled from the party. And BSP supremo Mayawati has expelled them from the party because of their poor image in society. There were many complaints against them of illegally occupying land or about their involvement in other illegal activities. The BSP chief never tolerates illegal activities of anyone. All these leaders joining the SP and the BJP have been rejected by Mayawati and the BSP. The BSP has only emerged stronger after these leaders left the party. Other parties are decorating their bouquet with rejected items of the BSP and are planning to form the government in Uttar Pradesh, The status of these leaders was created by the BSP,” Singh told reporters in Lucknow on Sunday night.

Uma Shankar Singh was appointed leader of BSP Legislature Party a day after Mubarakpur MLA Shah Alam resigned as leader of the BSPLP and also quit the BSP last week.
