In an effort to upgrade services to common people, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has separated two of its hospitals namely Rajan Babu Institute of Pulmonary Medicine and Tuberculosis and Maharishi Valmiki Hospital.
These two hospitals were merged in 2017 for the purpose of upgrading health services with the approval of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation. After the merger both the hospitals were facing difficulty in providing quality healthcare services due to which it was decided to separate the functioning of both the hospitals, officials said here on Friday.
According to the new arrangement, the administrative and financial matters of both the hospitals will be separate and independent. Chest, TB, surgical and eye OPDs will be operated from Rajan Babu Hospital. Bronchoscopy and PFT operations will also continue.
Pediatric OPD will also start functioning in future.
Maharishi Valmiki Infectious Disease Hospital will continue to run medicine, paediatrics, ENT (4 days a week) and skin OPD (twice a week) and anti-rabies clinic. Rest of the services will continue to operate as before.
Rajan Babu Hospital will have a Mycobacteriology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Pathology department with doctors from the respective departments, while Maharishi Valmiki Hospital will have a Microbiology, Biochemistry and Pathology department with doctors from the respective specialties.
However this hospital will continue to use the lab services and OT of Rajan Babu Hospital till the establishment of lab services and OT. Apart from this, the mortuary services of Rajan Babu Hospital will be used till the provision of a mortuary chamber in Maharishi Valmiki Hospital.
Even after separation, both the Rajan Babu and Maharshi Valmiki Institutes will continue to work mutually and collaboratively in matters of emergency, ambulance services, laboratory, radiology and specialist services so that resources can be efficiently and optimally utilised.
