With the objective of enhancing the quality of service, the mini Anganwadi centres in the State will soon undergo an upgrade. The minister of Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) Rekha Arya informed that with the approval of the Central government, the mini Anganwadi centres across the State will be upgraded. She stated this in a meeting organised on Monday.
An official of the WECD department informed that the State currently has 14,000 upgraded Anganwadi centres, while there are 5,120 mini Anganwadi centres. These mini centres are staffed by only one mini Anganwadi worker, resulting in inefficiency in providing adequate services to children in terms of food, care and other aspects. In light of this, the department, with the approval of the Central government, will upgrade the mini centres into larger Anganwadi centres, the official said.
The official further added that the mini Anganwadi workers employed in the centres will be promoted to a higher position with an increase in remuneration. At present, mini centre Anganwadi workers receive Rs 7,000 per month, but with the upgrade, the enhanced remuneration will be Rs 9,700 per month, he added.
The official informed that with the centre upgrade, an additional helper will be assigned with a remuneration of Rs 5,020 per month. He emphasised that currently, there are vacant positions in some upgraded Anganwadi centres which will be filled by the end of the financial year.
