A 15-year-old girl was allegedly molested and assaulted by a teacher of a government school in Deoria, police said on Sunday.
The district basic education officer has suspended the teacher with immediate effect, officials said, adding that the girl studies in the same school.
An FIR has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of law, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, police said.
Superintendent of Police Sankalp Sharma said on October 25, the 30-year-old teacher molested the girl studying in the upper primary school located in Suroli police station area. He said when the victim protested, she was beaten up and threatened by the accused.
The girl reached home and informed her family about the incident following which a complaint was filed with the police and the Education department.
The SP said an FIR had been registered against the accused under the Indian Penal Code and POCSO Act for molesting, assaulting and issuing threats.
Sharma said efforts were on to arrest the accused.
An official of the Education department said the accused teacher had been suspended by the district basic education officer with immediate effect.
Meanwhile in Firozabad, a Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) jawan filed a complaint with police against a man, who allegedly threatened his daughter to change her religion and marry him.
SP (Dehat) Kunwar Ran Vijay Singh on Sunday told media persons that the accused was identified as Shahrukh alias Vihaan, a resident of Amroha district, and he had befriended the victim through Facebook.
Shahrukh had threatened the victim and said that he would behead her and her brother if she did not marry him.
"Shahrukh came to meet me on September 24 and threatened to kill me and my family and he also warned me of posting pictures he had captured with me. He asked me to marry him and change my religion, but when I refused, he started threatening me," said the victim, a resident of a village under the Shikohabad police station of the district.
Police started a probe into the incident and are looking for the accused who is absconding. A man-hunt has been launched to nab him.
