Palamu tiger reserve management awaits clearance from the Central Zoo Authority for translocation of extra animals from Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park Ormanjhi to this reserve.
The National Tiger Conservation Authority has given permission to translocate the extra animals from Ormanjhi to PTR.
The final take is of the Central Zoo Authority. Once its approval is granted, 300 extra animals of Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park will be brought here in the PTR.
Principal chief conservator of forests and chief wildlife warden Kulwant Singh said, "The NTCA has approved our proposal for the translocation of the extra animals from BBB Park. Now, it's a wait for the Central Zoo Authority to give its approval."
Kulwant Singh said "I believe the Central Zoo Authority will accord approval to our proposal for translocation. The extra animals that will come to the PTR will be quarantined before they are released into the jungles of the tiger reserve Palamu."
Kumar Ashish deputy director south division of PTR said "The zoo animals are quarantined before they are released into the jungles to avert or avoid any zoonotic issues. We will be doing this too. The quarantine period will be 30 days long."
Ashish said "We believe in these 30 days the animals brought and lodged in the soft release centres would not only acclimatise to the environment, soil, grasses etc but will also take to grazing."
Animals that begin eating grasses learn skills to survive faster in the jungles, added Ashish.
