State Govt to bring strict land law following due process: BJP

Sunday, 24 December 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The Bharatiya Janata Party has stated that its government in Uttarakhand will introduce a strict land law in the State. Claiming that the party is committed to maintaining the beliefs and aspirations which fuelled the Statehood movement, the BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt appealed to the public to not get carried away by propaganda being spread by some political parties. The BJP State president said this a day before a large public rally is slated to be held in Dehradun in support of the demand for setting 1950 as the domicile cut off and stricter land laws in the State.

Responding to media queries regarding land laws, Bhatt said that it was the BJP government which had formed a high level committee headed by a retired chief secretary for periodic changes made in the land laws and necessary suggestions. “The government has received the report of this committee and is considering it seriously. The technical and policy aspects of the report need to be examined in addition to seeking advice on legal aspects so that it does not face any type of challenge in the future. Considering these aspects, the government has formed a drafting committee to examine the report and prepare a strong legal draft. All social, organisational and individual stakeholders need to exercise patience on this sensitive issue,” he said.

Bhatt further said that the BJP government represents the thoughts of the State’s people and public sentiments are reflected in the government policies. This is the reason why the BJP government introduced one of the strictest anti-copying laws in the nation to secure the future of the youth. The government implemented a strict anti-conversion law to thwart the conspiracy of those attacking the demographic, religious and cultural identity of the State. He claimed that following the due process, the BJP government will also bring a strict land law and implement it on the ground.

Responding to the Congress’ support to the planned land law agitation, he opined that the masses have full faith in the government but the Congress and other opposition parties are busy spreading confusion. “Those who never supported the demand for a separate State while in power and didn’t work on the basic issues of the State after its creation have no other option but to support all such movements. As it is, the Congress covertly remains busy in conspiracies to dent the image and atmosphere of the State,” the BJP State president added.
