Tech to be used in land consolidation process

Thursday, 31 August 2023 | PNS | Lucknow

In a pioneering move to streamline land consolidation processes, Uttar Pradesh has embarked on a significant transformation in 515 villages across 25 districts.

What sets this initiative apart is the integration of cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, drone and rover survey methods into the consolidation process.

Consolidation Commissioner GS Naveen Kumar announced this groundbreaking development, highlighting that the Uttar Pradesh Holdings Consolidation Act of 1953 has set the stage for ongoing consolidation efforts and the creation of updated land rights records.

The commissioner emphasised the rising demand for the re-consolidation of newly-acquired lands. To date, notifications for consolidation have been issued for 141 villages, with an additional 374 villages in 25 districts being brought under the consolidation umbrella. This translates to a total of 515 villages now undergoing the consolidation process.

One of the most notable aspects of this initiative is the utilisation of advanced technology. “The state has initiated the tender process for integrating AI, blockchain, drone and rover surveys into the consolidation process. These technologies are expected to significantly expedite and enhance the efficiency of land consolidation, benefiting both the government and the local populace,” Kumar said.

In response to concerns raised by the public, an inquiry committee has been formed to investigate alleged irregularities in the consolidation process in Ishwarpur village of Azamgarh.

Kumar disclosed that a three-member inquiry committee, chaired by additional director of consolidation, will scrutinise the complaints made by local resident Ramesh Yadav and other villagers. The committee will submit its report on September 1.

“This technological overhaul in land consolidation represents a major step forward for Uttar Pradesh in ensuring efficient land management and transparent processes. As the integration of AI, blockchain, drones, and rover surveys progresses, it is expected to set a precedent for more streamlined and accountable land consolidation efforts throughout the state,” Kumar said.
