In an innovative measure to motivate people for vaccination, the district authorities in Saifai tehsil of Etawah district have made vaccination mandatory for tipplers. They will have to furnish a vaccination certificate for buying alcohol from the liquor vends licensed by the state government.
Saifai is the hometown of the Yadav clan, the first family of Samajwadi Party.
According to official sources, the sub-divisional magistrate of Saifai took a unique initiative regarding the vaccine to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus in the district. The order has now been implemented in the entire Etawah district. The order of SDM Hem Singh is also seen to have a wide impact because on Saturday the SDM appealed to the liquor contractors to sell liquor only after customers above 45 years showed their vaccination certificate. For effective enforcement of the order the district excise officer will also periodically check the liquor vends. The SDM issued this direction after the SDM and Circle Officer Rakesh along with an Excise department team made inspection of liquor vends in the wake of death of over three dozen people in Aligarh on Saturday after consuming spurious liquor. The SDM said that liquor-beer shop operators had been asked to sell liquor only to those who had been vaccinated. He said the move would promote vaccination.
