A five-day long Kandhamal Mahotsav and Pallisree Mela was inaugurated at Phulbani by Assembly Deputy Speaker Saluga Pradhan as chief guest.
He said if tourism develops in Kandhamal, the district will develop economically and be a special district in India. Phulbani MLA Angad Kanhar and SDC Chairman Rodan Mallick were present as guests of honour.
Kanhar said the Chief Minister has done many developmental works for Kandhamal, while Mallick said Kandhmal’s tribal culture is unique. Collector Kandhmal Ashish Iswar Patil also emphasised on the development of tourism of the district.
In the second phase, various cultural programmes were organised by the district administration. Mayuri from Sundargarh played Sambalpuri dance, while Biswajanani of Bhanjanagar played Pasumukha dance. Tribal dance of Nabarangpur, Ghumura from Sonepur, Khanjar from Tumudibandh and Kotagarh and classical dance by Nataraj Kalamandir of Phulbani were showcased. Over 200 stalls were put up.
A district level Krusi Mahotsav and Krusi Jantrapati Mela were organised by the District Agriculture Office, Phulbani. The Mahotsav will run till January 9.
