MAN SERVING LIFE IMPRISONMENT FLEES JAIL IN M’BHANJ
Baripada: A man serving life imprisonment at the Rairangpur Sub-Jail in Mayurbhanj district escaped from the prison on Saturday. The prisoner, who hails from Budamara village under the Bisoi police limits, had been convicted in a murder case in 2015. During the imprisonment, he managed to win the trust of the jail authorities. He was also overseeing vegetable farming on the jail premises. However, he fled the prison in the afternoon. Probing into the incident, police came to know that he was present in the Tananagar area. Efforts were on to trace and nab him.
DIFFERENTLY-ABLED YOUTH DONATES BLOOD IN NUAPADA
Nuapada: A differently-abled youth of Nuapada district Sadar block has inspired others to do the noble act of blood donation by donating blood in the District Headquarters Hospital on Saturday.
DEMAND TO UPGRADE MOHANA TO NAC
Paralakhemundi: The locals have demanded to upgrade Mohana to a NAC (Notified Area Council). One of the oldest towns of Gajapati district, Mohana has 17 wards while many nearby villages like Kanteikoli, Ladurma, Betarsing, Rangmatia, Anandpur, Kharikua and Khariguda in the periphery. The population is also primarily tribal. Moreover, it has been declared an Assembly constituency and that too, a reserved one. Mohana is the main marketing zone bordering Rayagada, Kandhamal and Ganjam districts.
KHARIAR ARTISTS AWARDED IN DRAMA COMPETITION
Nuapada: The drama "Sapan" organised by Khariar Public School and Khariar Sanskrutik Anusthan has won four awards in the State level Sambalpuri Drama Competition held in Sambalpur on December 29.
The prize distribution was organised by Yuva Udayan, Sambalpur at Aranyaka Manch between December 25 and 28. When child artist Aaradhya Khamari was awarded as the best child artist, Sujata Panigarahi got the award of best dramatist and Sukesh Patnaik for best lighting arrangements. Sujata Panigarahi is the playwright and director of the drama.
BRAILLE DAY OBSERVED BY NSS
Banpur: The World Braille Day was observed by the Nehru Seva Sangh (NSS) on the 215th birthday of Louis Braille, the inventor of the script for the blind students in Banapur on Saturday. Dr Surendranath Patra presided over the meeting. Braille script was widely accepted by all languages globally and all regional languages in India and lakhs of blind students were educated and placed themselves in various fields, said NSS secretary Sarojini Dash. Block Education Officer Sanatan Jally, ABEO Sandhyarani Harichandan, Balamukunda Das, Dr Chintamani Mishra, Birendra Kumar Tripathy, Nrusingh Charan Maharana and Suresh Chandra Dash spoke on the occasion. A Braille Callender was unveiled. The programme was coordinated by Pradeep Kumar Das. Treasurer Om Prakash Agrawal gave a vote of thanks.
BRAHMAPUR SCRIBE SAHU HONOURED IN HYDERABAD
Brahmapur: Eight eminent Gurus were felicitated by Padma Jyoti Award in the International Classical and Folk Art Festival in Hyderabad, organised by founder of Sanskriti Kala Niketan Sanjukta Panda and Guru Dr Sudipta Panda. From Odisha senior journalist Sudip Sahu was felicitated with Flourish Culture Indian Icon Award. Besides being a journalist, Sahu is well known as a good singer, artist, coordinator and writer. Along with Sahu, sand artist Satya Moharana was also felicitated.
BBP SEEKS GOVT BLDG FOR STATE PARTY OFFICE
Brahmapur: The Bharatiya Bikash Parishad (BBP) led by its president Surendra Panigrah has written a letter to the State Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary of GA and Director, Estate of GA Department, requesting to allot a Government building preferably near Master Canteen Square for functioning of its State office. Since the State Government has already allotted buildings to other political parties, a similar allotment in favour of BBP may be made, Panigrahi requested. Notably, BBP has been registered as a political party u/s 29 (A) of Representation of Peoples’ Act 1951 since November 16 last.
RAJASWA MELA UNVEILED AT KUKUDAKHANDI
Brahmapur: A Rajaswa Mela was organised by the Kukudakhandi Tehsil under Gopalpur Assembly constituency here in the presence of dignitaries like Brahmapur MP Chandrasekhar Sahu, MLA Bikram Panda, Sub-Collector Asutosh Kulkarni, local PRI representatives, BJD leaders and Revenue officials. The beneficiaries conveyed their gratitude to the Chief Minister for such pro-people schemes.
JSW BPSL HOLDS ROAD SAFETY WEEK
Jharasuguda: The Road Safety Week was observed at JSW Bhushan Power and Steel Limited’s expansive 700-acre project in Lapanga. The collaborative effort with Sambalpur's Transport Department aimed to heighten awareness regarding road safety practices among staff, drivers, and all others involved in the plant project activities.
